During the last couple of years, antibiotics have evolved, and they are now capable of treating a wider variety of conditions. For those that do not know, antibiotics represent drugs which are used in order to treat infections caused by bacteria, by fighting the sources. Zithromax represents an antibiotic which is currently mostly used in order to treat respiratory infections, ear infections, skin infections, alongside with sexually transmitted diseases. Do keep in mind the fact that Zithromax can also be used for other medical purposes.

What should I know prior to taking Zithromax?

Having an understanding of each drug prior to taking it can improve the chances of being safe throughout the treatment, alongside with having the condition that you’re suffering from healed. To kick things off, it is important to only take Zithromax as it has been prescribed by your doctor.

During the consultation, let your doctor know if you have liver disease, kidney disease, a heart rhythm disorder, a history of the Long QT syndrome, or myasthenia gravis. Alongside with this, you should not take Zithromax in case you have had liver or jaundice problems caused by the pill, or are allergic to similar drugs.

At this moment in time, studies have shown that the pill is not expected to harm unborn babies. However, to stay safe, it is recommended to let your doctor know if you are pregnant.

How is the pill usually taken?

Most of the times, doctors will prescribe a certain dosage of the pill, which can be taken either with or without food. In case you have been prescribed an oral suspension, make sure to shake it and measure the dosage well.

When it comes down to taking the pill, it is important to do so for the full prescribed length of time. While the symptoms may tend to improve prior to the treatment ending, they can come back if the pill is not taken properly. Do keep in mind the fact that due to the nature of the medicine, it cannot be used to treat viral infections such as the common cold.

In the unfortunate case that you miss a dose, simply take the next one as scheduled. If it’s almost time for the next dose, then skip the missed one. In the unfortunate case of an overdose, it is essential to seek medical attention as soon as possible.
