Xenical

[dropcap]X[/dropcap]enical is a medical treatment that stops fat from being absorbed by the human body. Xenical is usually prescribed along a diet management program that can help patients reduce their calories input. Xenical is also used for treating obesity and it can be used by people who have certain risk factors like high blood pressure, diabetes or high cholesterol.

People who are allergic to orlistat, the main ingredient in Xenical, should never take this treatment. Also, patients with gallbladder issues or a chronic inability to properly absorb food and proteins should never take this medication either. Patients are strongly advised to tell their doctors about any diseases like underactive thyroid, diabetes, liver disease or eating disorders before getting a prescription for Xenical.

Patients need to know that this medication is effective only combined with a diet program that includes exercises, weight management and control. Also, this medication does not go well with diets that are high in fat. Patients should eat fresh and healthy because high-fat diets combined with the active ingredients in the Xenical pill can bring unwanted side effects on the stomach and the intestines of the patient. Sometimes, Xenical is also prescribed with a vitamin supplement because the medication is making it harder for the body to absorb useful daily vitamins like A, D, E and K. That is why sometimes vitamin supplements are necessary while undergoing a treatment with medications that contain orlistat.

The pill must be taken during a meal or after the meal. The meal must contain some fat and if a meal is skipped, it is wise to skip the pill also because it can have unwanted effects on an empty stomach. Patients can take the medication three times a day and they should closely monitor their caloric intake. Only 30% of a day’s calories should be in fat form while taking Xenical.
