Alavert

Alavert is an anti-allergic drug with an antipruritic effect. You can see the results of its action 30 minutes after its use. It’s not addictive and acts for 24 hours.

Indications for use

Indications for use of this medicine include: urticaria, allergic rhinitis, Quincke’s disease, dermatitis, conjunctivitis, allergic bronchial asthma, drug allergy. In addition, Alavert is effective for elimination of allergic reactions to insect bites.

Directions for use

Adults and children aged 12 and above, should take1 pill once a day, which is quite enough for elimination of all manifestations of allergic reaction. Children from 24 months to 12 years weighing up to 30 kg should take ? of a pill once a day and those weighing more than 30 kg 1 pill once a day. It is quickly absorbed from the digestive tract into the blood and starts acting. The course of treatment usually lasts from 10 to 14 days, but in some cases it can last from 1 day to 1 month. The doctor establishes the duration of necessary treatment individually depending on the type of allergy and the existing manifestations. This drug prevents the development of allergy and alleviates its course, so it is advisable to take it at the first signs of tissue diseases or for its prevention. Alavert decreases the permeability of vessels, blocks a possible swelling of tissues, and promotes the elimination of unstriated muscle spasm. Maximum effect can be seen in 8-12 hours; the drug doesn’t affect CNS and is not addictive. A simultaneous eating increase a minimum time of clinical effect by 40-60 minutes.

Side effects

Mostly, no side effects are observed. But in some cases, you can experience dry mouth and sickness. If you use placebo, the undesirable consequences occur with the same frequency.

Contraindications

The main contraindication is an individual intolerance to any drug ingredient and a lactation period. Children under the age of 24 months shouldn’t take Alavert in the form of pills. During pregnancy this drug can be used only if its benefit for the mother supersedes a potential risk for the fetus. If there is no overdose, possibility adverse effect on the fetus is minimal (according to the clinical trials).

Interaction with the other drugs

It is unadvisable to take this drug together with erythromycin, ketoconazole and cimetidine, as the concentration of Alavert in blood increases under the influence of these drugs. Some tricyclic antidepressants and barbiturates, and also phenytoin, ethanol, phenylbutazone and rifampicin reduce the effectiveness of this drug.
