Allegra is an antihistamine. Such drugs fight against chemical histamine, naturally produced in your body.

Allegra is used for the prevention of sneezing, runny nose, itchy eyes and other allergic symptoms.

What should I tell the doctor before taking Allegra?

Don’t take Allegra if you have an allergic reaction to this drug.

Before taking the drug tell the doctor if you suffer from some serious heart kidney or liver disease. In this case, you’ll require a special dosage of drug and constant monitoring during its use.

Allegra belongs to the category “C” on FDA classification with regard to the pregnancy. It means that the harmful effect of the drug on the fetus is unproven. Don’t take Allegra if you’re pregnant without a previous consultation with a doctor. It is also unknown if Allegra penetrates into the human milk. Don’t take Allegra if you’re a nursing mother without a previous consultation with a doctor.

The drug is not recommended to the children under the age of 6.

Directions for use

Allegra should be taken in strict accordance with the doctor’s recommendations. To clarify the indications for use, consult the doctor or pharmacist.

Each dose of the drug must be taken with a full glass of water.

Usually, Allegra is taken twice a day, in the morning and in the evening. Follow the doctor’s orders.

Don’t take Allegra together with antacids, containing aluminum or magnesium, such as Rolaids, Maalox, Mylanta, milk of magnesia, Pepcid, etc. These antacids can reduce the effect of Allegra.

What are the possible side effects of Allegra?

In case of allergic reaction (difficulty breathing, narrowing of the throat, swollen lips, tongue, face or seizures), immediately stop taking the drug and consult a doctor. Allergic reaction is rare, and the other serious side effects are unlikely.

The other, less serious side effects are more possible. Continue taking the drug and tell the doctor if you have sickness or indigestion.
