At this moment in time, there are tens of thousands of people residing in areas from all around the world who deal with sleep problems. One issue which is becoming more and more common is excessive sleepiness, which can be characterized by being unable to wake up following a night’s sleep, feeling tired at all times, or feeling like they are not getting enough sleep. Modafinil represents a drug which is used to treat wakefulness in people with some of the conditions outlined above. Do keep in mind the fact that the drug can also be used for other purposes, as dictated by the doctors.

What should I know prior to taking Modafinil?

To kick things off, Modafinil represents a wakefulness-promoting drug, which works by altering the natural chemicals in the brain which have an influence on sleep, and the state that people have afterwards.

Due to the nature of the medicine, it is encouraged that Modafinil is only used once it has been prescribed by a doctor. With this in mind, do not use it if you are allergic to the ingredients used in the drug, have a history of heart valve problems, or of developing rashes after taking the pill. Together with this, you should let your doctor or pharmacist know if you are pregnant, have certain allergies, are taking other medicine for the same purpose, MAOI inhibitors, or have a history of mood and mental problems. If this is the case, then certain adjustments in the dosage may have to be made.

How do use the drug?

Modafinil should be used exactly as directed by your doctor. The pill is usually taken with a full glass of water, in the morning. In case you happen to miss a dose of the medicine, then simply take it as soon as you remember. Do not take the dose too late though, as this can break your regular sleep cycle.

When it comes down to taking Modafinil, make sure to avoid alcohol at all costs, as in combination with it, it can lead to some serious side effects. Together with this, do not take more of the pill than the recommended dose. While the pill cannot cure sleep disorders, it can help inhibit their symptoms, thus allowing patients to lead better and more active lives.

What are the side effects associated with the pill?

Some of the most common side effects include headache, dizziness, nervousness, upset stomach, trouble sleeping, stuffy or runny nose and nausea. In case you experience more serious side effects, then seek medical attention right away.
