Depression, anxiety and sleep disorders caused by neurosis, alcoholism, organic diseases of CNS, psychoneurotic disorders with anxiety and depression, psychotic depressions (including involutional, reactive depressive phase of manic-depressive). In the general therapeutic pratice: duodenal ulcer, dumping syndrome, premenstrual syndrome, chronic pain in oncological patients, skin itching, chronic idiopathic urticaria.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity, closed-angle glaucoma, AV block, prostatic adenoma, pregnancy, breastfeeding, children under the age of 12.

Side effects

Dry mouth, sickness, vomiting, anorexia, taste disturbance, aphthous stomatitis, diarrhea, constipation, urinary retention, visual disorders, general weakness, sense of blood rush to the face, vertigo, tinnitus, headache, drowsiness, disorientation, hallucinations, paresthesia, ataxia, extrapyramidal disorders, seizures, tremor, hypotension, tachycardia, photosensitisation, allergic reactions (skin rash, itching, angioedema, eosinophilia); in rare cases- leukopenia, agranulocytosis, thrombocytopenia, increase or decrease of libido, swollen testicles, gynecomastia (in men), gynecomastia and galactorhea (in women), hypo- or hyperglycemia, syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion and alopecia.

Precautions

In case of the long-term treatment, the sudden withdrawal is unadvisable because of the risks of developing withdrawal syndrome (sickness, headache, general weakness); you should not engage in activities, which requires the high speed of psychic and motor responses; alcohol consumption and use of MAO inhibitors is prohibited during the treatment.

Directions for use and dosage

The drug is taken orally, during or immediately after eating (to reduce the irritation of the stomach mucous membrane) 1-2 times a day. The dose for the treatment of moderate degree of depression and/or anxiety is 75 mg a day; later on you can adjust the individually, which is usually 75-150 mg a day. In case of severe depression and anxiety you should take up to 300 mg a day. The effective dose for the patients with mild disorders – 25-50 mg a day. The single dose must not exceed 150 mg. In case of sleeping disorders the larger part of daily dose must be taken in the evening. An average duration of treatment is 2-3 weeks. In the end of treatment, you should gradually decrease the dose until the complete withdrawal of the drug.
